This prize was established by ECMI in memory of its founding member Hansjörg Wacker (1939-1991), who was Professor at the Chair of Numerical Mathematics at the University of Linz.
The prize is awarded every second year at the ECMI Conference for the best mathematical thesis at the masters' level on an industrial project written by a student from an ECMI institution. The winner will be invited to attend the ECMI conference (all expenses paid) to present his/her project there and to receive the prize of 1500 euro.
A copy of the thesis should be sent as PDF-File to the Secretary of ECMI per e-mail to arrive by March 31, 2008. The entry should be accompanied by a letter from a member of the academic staff at the institution which summarises the mathematical and industrial relevance of the work. It should also state if the thesis is part of the assessment for a degree or other qualification. Please, use Wacker Prize in the subject line of your e-mail. If the language of the thesis is not English, then it is necessary to send also an extended summary in English.
